If you have a dog in Columbia, you probably know the routine.
You head to the dog park, let them run around, stand around for a while, and eventually head home.
But what if the dog park was somewhere you wanted to hang out, too?
That question is what started Sit & Stay Social.
The idea: a social club built for dogs and their people
We’re exploring the idea of bringing a new kind of dog-friendly experience to Columbia, Missouri.
Imagine a large, secure off-leash park where your dog can run, play and make friends while you grab a drink, meet up with friends, watch the game or just enjoy being outside.
Our vision for Sit & Stay Social includes:
- Large, secure off-leash play areas
- Separate spaces for large and small dogs
- A bar serving beer, canned cocktails and non-alcoholic options
- Covered seating and plenty of shade
- TVs for Mizzou, Chiefs and other big games
- Heaters for those cooler Missouri days
- Local food trucks
- Dog-friendly events and breed meetups
- Trivia, live music and community events
- Plenty of space to simply sit, stay and socialize
And you wouldn’t need a dog to come hang out.
Because while dogs are a pretty important part of the idea, Sit & Stay Social isn’t just about building another dog park.
It’s about building a community.
Dogs play. People stay.
We want Sit & Stay Social to be somewhere you actually incorporate into your life.
Meet friends for happy hour, and bring your dogs.
Come watch the Mizzou game on Saturday.
Grab dinner from a food truck while your dog burns off some energy.
Meet other dog owners.
Come to a dachshund meetup. Or a golden retriever night. Or trivia. Or an adoption event with a local rescue.
Maybe you stay for 45 minutes.
Maybe you end up staying for three hours.
That’s the point.
Your dog gets somewhere to play.
You get somewhere to stay.
But first, we need Columbia’s help.
Here’s the important part:
Sit & Stay Social doesn’t exist yet.
We’re at the very beginning of exploring whether this concept makes sense for Columbia, and we don’t want to build something based solely on what we think people want.
We want to build it around what Columbia dog owners actually want.
So before there’s a location, construction or an opening date, we’re building the Sit & Stay community first.
We want to know:
Would you use it?
How often would you come?
What would make you join?
What amenities matter to you?
Where in Columbia should it be?
What would make you choose Sit & Stay Social instead of simply heading to a free dog park?
Your answers will help determine whether we take the next step, and what Sit & Stay Social ultimately becomes.
